Sindice technologies in action on Life Science Data

To support integration of linked data resources from distinct namespaces the HCLS ontology was created. Mapping resources to an ontology allows queries to be expressed through a unifying concept. Types identified in the datasets can be grouped based on common attributes. A machine understandable description of these types can be used to allow complex querying based on attributes and perform classification tasks.

A challenge with integrating and consuming linked data is writing queries which return all available information. Each datasource publishing linked data uses a distinct namespaces to identify what the data is describing. This presents a challenge when writing querys across datasets due to the requirement to identify related concepts in one or more datasets. To facilitate integration of concepts across life sciences domains HCLS extends the Semantic Science Integrated Ontology (SIO) which is available here. The HCLS ontology is available here
